Abundant Life: Discover

The Discover phase of the Abundant Life process is where you begin to Discover some of the things you are reaching for. Your questions are answered. You get to know God. You begin seeking the Abundant Life. You discover there is more to life than 9-5. You discover there is a God who loves you. You discover God desires to have a relationship with you. You discover there is an Abundant Life out there.

The primary offering in the Discover phase is the “Knowing God/Knowing Northeast” class (formerly known as Discovering Northeast). This comprehensive class gives you information on what Northeast is all about, what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, information on baptism and outlines the Abundant Life process.

Equipping Experiences designed for those who are still “discovering” will also be offered. These include I OBJECT(looks at some common objections to Christianity); and 7 STEPS TO BIBLE SKILLS (how to read and understand the Bible). These classes are designed to help you continue to Discover what the Abundant Life means to you.

1. Why did we change the class format from Discovering Nort heast (DNE) to Knowing God/Knowing Northeast?

First of all, we felt the name of the class, “Discovering Northeast” wasn’t exactly accurate. It’s more than about getting general information about us . . . we talk to those who attend about baptism, membership, etc. So hopefully the new name is a more accurate reflection of what the class is about. We also recognize the need to make information about Northeast readily available and didn’t want people to have to attend a class to get it. So we took a lot of the information we shared in the first half of the class and put it on a DVD that we entitled, “Who We are/Where You Are” which is available at Guest Services, or you can view it at www.necchurch.org — there’s a link at the bottom of the home page. Lastly, we wanted to shorten the class and offer more convenient times.

2. How would viewing the DVD help me in my spiritual life?

Not only does this DVD include introductory information about Northeast, it also includes stories from people from a variety of backgrounds (brand new to church, new to Louisville, transferring from another church/ religion) which means you will hopefully find a story you can relate to and help you take that next step in living the Abundant Life.

3. How long does it take to view the DVD?

The DVD is broken up into twelve segments. You may click on “view all” or get your popcorn and settle in for about a 35-40 minute show.

4. Why do I have to take the Knowing God/Knowing Nort heast Clas to become a member of Northeast?

Our goal is for you to understand what Northeast is about before you become a members. We are not overly concerned about the number of members on the rolls, yet want to make sure everyone has a clear understanding that we want them to engage in the Abundant Life process.

5. Do I have to take this clas in order to be baptized?

No. It is highly recommended, but is not required.

6. I’ve ben coming to Nort heast for a while and get a lot out of the wekly service so why do I ned to take this class?

This class will help you take a positive next step. There’s a huge difference between attending a church and becoming fully engaged in what a church is all about. If you have questions about the Knowing God/Knowing Northeast class, please contact Discover Minister Randy Gordon at 212-5250 or randy.gordon@necchurch.org.
