Serve as a Life Group ...
Touched Twice Free Medical Clinic

Ben White and his Life Group are organizing a Touched Twice FREE Medical Clinic, Saturday, August 28 from 10-2 at the LaGrange Community Center (307 West Jefferson Street).
Free medical, dental, vision, and other health services will be provided. Each guest will be able to "shop" at a "food pantry" and a "clothes closet."  A healthy meal and other services/events may also be offered, including a beauty/barber shop.  Interpreters may be present for Spanish-speaking guests.

One of the great and important aspects of this clinic is that we will have the opportunity to share the life and eternity-changing gospel of Jesus Christ with each of our guests.  You can learn more about Touched Twice clinics at www.touchedtwiceunited.org.    This is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for you and your Life Group to serve together.

The next planning meeting will be Monday, June 14, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the LaGrange Community Center (2nd floor).  If you are interested in helping prepare for the August 28 clinic -- where we will be blessed with the opportunity to share Christ’s love with 300 to 500 residents of LaGrange and the surrounding areas, in both word and deed -- please try to make plans to join us on June 14.

Here are the volunteer opportunities from Ben White:

Dental -- This team is responsible for recruiting dental professionals to provide dental care for the clinic.  Fortunately, both pediatric and "adult" dentists have committed to helping with the clinic, but we do not yet have a dental clinic coordinator.  We also need more dentists and hygienists, etc. to join the team.

Evangelism/Advocates -- The evangelism team assists the advocates (those that accompany the clinic guests through the clinic experience) in sharing the gospel with the guests that we serve.  This group will provide evangelism training for all volunteers prior to the clinic.  Our goal is that each guest will have the opportunity to respond to the gospel.  Chris Platt with Crestwood Baptist Church (chris@crestwoodbaptist.org) and I are part of this team, but we could use more help.

Food Pantry -- This team is responsible for soliciting donations of dry grocery items and then setting up a give-away area for the clinic day.  We do not yet have anyone committed to this important team.

Meal Planning/Preparation -- This team is responsible for providing a meal for guests and volunteers on clinic day.  This team will solicit food and beverage donations and on clinic day, will set up, prepare the food and serve the food.  This is a big part of the clinic, particularly since we could have 500-800 guests and volunteers at the site on clinic day.  Kara Vonderheide of Northeast Christian Church (vondermail@insightbb.com) is leading this team, but we need more team members.  Kara is focusing on developing healthy food options for the clinic.

Clothes Closet -- This team is responsible for soliciting donations for gently used clothing and setting up a give-away area for the clinic day.  Monique Baker of Northeast Christian Church (monique_baker@hotmail.com) is leading this team, with Dawn Suter of Campbellsburg Baptist Church (campbellsburgyouth@insightbb.com) committing to be a part of the team.  We need more team members.

Clinic-day "Gatekeeper" -- This team is responsible for maintaining the flow of guest appointments throughout the clinic -- these folks will ensure that the first come-first served design of the clinic will work.  Brian Baker of Northeast Christian Church (brian@baker-bohnert.com) and Paul Winstead of Southeast Christian Church (Paul.Winstead@tbs.toshiba.com) are leading this team, but I am sure that they could use some help.

Since parking is an issue around the LaGrange Community Center, we also need areas around the clinic for volunteer parking, with van transportation to the clinic.  If anyone knows of an area where our volunteers could park on clinic day (preferably close to the Community Center), please let me know.  Also, we need help on this transportation team, which is also being led by Brian Baker and Paul Winstead.

Medical/Pharmacy -- This team raises, trains and coordinates a team of volunteers who will staff the medical services area on clinic day.  This includes recruiting medical volunteers such as doctors and nurses, soliciting donations for medical supplies and medications, and helping to determine the flow of care for clinic day.  Several adult doctors and at least one pediatrician have expressed a willingness to help with the clinic.  However, we need a medical/pharmacy coordinator.  While this could be a doctor, we would also encourage nurses, physicians' assistants and doctor's office managers to consider this very important role.  While Teresa Gamsky, RN of the Oldham County Health Department (teresad.gamsky@ky.gov) has committed to collecting supplies and Cynthia Stafford and Dede McIntyre, both of the HDB LaGrange Community Care Clinic (cstafford@hdbservicegroup.com), have committed to helping with the functioning of the Medical Team, we need a Coordinator/point person and more doctors and nurses to join the team.

Optical -- This team recruits ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians to serve at the clinic.  This team also gathers optical equipment for use on clinic day and recycled glasses to give away.  I understand that Touched Twice will provide us with the eyeglasses IF we have an ophthalmologist on-site.  This is a vital need of the clinic.  We need a coordinator and folks to serve on this team.

Outreach -- This team shares the vision of the Oldham County Touched Twice clinic with area churches and faith-based organizations.  This team is important to get the word out about the clinic and for volunteer recruitment/church involvement.  As we discussed, we truly want this community event to be supported by the churches within and surrounding Oldham County!  We now have six churches that are sending volunteers and leaders to this event, and we hope to get more area churches involved.  Although we are actively contacting area churches, we need a coordinator and team members to carry forward this effort.

Prayer -- As we discussed on Monday, if this clinic is not covered in prayer, it will fail.  God must be the central focus in everything that we do.  We also want to pray for the guests that we will serve – that their hearts might be open to the gospel.  This group will also organize prayer walks around LaGrange as we near time for the clinic.  Clint Elliott of Crestwood Baptist Church (celliott694@students.sbts.edu) is leading/coordinating our prayer team, but we need more prayer warriors.

Publicity -- This team is responsible for contacting local media resources, and generally creates a buzz for the clinic.  Dan Vonderheide of Northeast Christian Church (dan@louisville.com) is leading this team, and has already created our clinic website (www.oldhamclinic.com).  I am sure that Dan could use some help on this team.

Registration -- This team is responsible for recruiting a team to register both clinic guests and volunteers.  The registration team is responsible for organizing the clinic forms, placing them on clipboards and numbering them as guests arrive.  The registration team then connects each guest with an advocate.  The registration team also sets up a desk for collecting the forms and clipboards as guests exit the clinic.  Mary White of Crestwood Baptist Church (mwhite3307@bellsouth.net) and Pam Lunsford of DeHaven Baptist Church (lunsfordnorm@bellsouth.net) are leading this team, but they need more help.

Spa/Beauty or Barber Shop -- This team recruits volunteers interested in pampering the clinic guests - with services such as haircuts, manicures, pedicures, etc.  Lorie Elliott (lorie@pinnacletitleonline.com) of Crestwood Baptist Church is leading this team, but more help is needed.

Stage/Entertainment -- The Stage Presentation team organizes the entertainment.  Guests will be able to listen to worship music in a relaxed environment as they wait for their number to be called, so that they may go through the clinic.  A good stage presentation can really help spiritual conversations naturally develop between the guest and the advocate.  Bernie Koontz (hbkoontz@bellsouth.net) is leading this team, but more help is needed.

Volunteers -- This team recruits, organizes and along with the evangelism team, trains the advocates.  The advocates are really the heart and soul of the clinic.  We need almost as many advocate volunteers as guests that we hope to serve.  The advocate helps with the paper work, assists in navigating the building, builds a relationship with the guest and has the opportunity to share the gospel with the guest.  The advocate takes a servant role, caring for every need of their guest.  Shawna White of Northeast Christian Church (shawna.white@insightbb.com) has committed to leading this team, but we need others to join this team.

Interpreters -- As we will likely serve Spanish-speaking guests, we will need interpreters present on clinic-day to function in all facets of the clinic.  Cynthia Stafford of the HDB LaGrange Community Care Clinic (cstafford@hdbservicegroup.com) has agreed to help provide some interpreters for the clinic, but we will certainly need many Spanish-speaking volunteers.

Family pictures -- We discussed offering family pictures for our guests.  We need volunteers to staff this area of the clinic.  I understand that Ron Davis and/or Phil Warren, both of Crestwood Baptist Church, might be interested in this.  Please pass this e-mail along to them, or provide me with their contact information.
