Kentucky Refugee Ministries
Every day, people around the world are forced to flee their homes to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster – becoming refugees. There are more than 65 million refugees in the world today, and each year a small number of them are resettled in Louisville. Here at Northeast, we see this as a unique opportunity to make a global impact right here in our own city.
So, to aid with the resettlement process, Northeast partners with Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) to provide housing, counseling, ESL classes and job training to newly resettled refugee families. Volunteers who serve with KRM are assigned to a refugee family for 3 months, building a relationship with them and helping to provide some of their basic needs during that time.Website

Ministries Of Northeast Christian Church
PB & J Ministry
This ministry prepares 150 sack lunches at Northeast every Saturday and Sunday and serves them to the homeless men at St. Johns Center in downtown Louisville. Many families serve together with their children. Help fulfill this ministry mission to serve the homeless population by providing meals, clothing, and supplies; and share Abundant Life that God promises with others in need.
The little locker is a ministry designed to eliminate non-educational learning barriers for children. This ministry provides them with assistance with basic need essentials year round. We collect monetary donations as well as essential items to deliver to the family resource directors at the schools.Facebook
Comfort Cover is a dedicated volunteer group that joins together on a weekly basis to make no-sew fleece blankets for Norton Suburban Hospital cancer patients. These blankets are given to oncology, surgical, and pediatric day surgery patients, and the chaplains give them to patients or families of patients that could use a little extra comfort and love. Additionally, the Comfort Cover group makes “angel” blankets. These special blankets are used to wrap infants that do not make it to term or are stillborn. The angel blankets are lovingly designed as two blankets tied together with ribbon so that when the time comes, the mother is able to keep part of the blanket while leaving the other part with the infant.
As a growing ministry, Comfort Cover is looking for new members who feel God calling them to provide comfort to the sick. No special talents are needed – just a desire to touch someone’s life with love.
At Northeast, we care about the forgotten. Eastern Cemetery is one of those places that over the years, has been forgotten. We want to help restore the beauty of one of Kentucky’s oldest cemetery by helping maintain the grounds.
Throughout the spring and summer, we have a group that meets regularly to keep up the grounds. So, if you love yard maintenance, mowing, weed-eating, etc, this is a great opportunity for you.
To learn more about Eastern Cemetery, check out the organization that primarily takes care of the grounds: Friends of Eastern CemeteryWebsite
Trikes For Tikes
In 2000, Trikes for Tikes was founded by Northeast Christian Church members who repaired and donated 25 bicycles at Christmas to assist children in our community whose families didn’t have the financial resources to provide these gifts. When the ministry was started, the blessings were always centered on Christmas and focused on only young children. Since that time, the ministry has expanded to serve adults as well as children and has developed some relationships that allow us to serve the community on a year-round basis. Trikes for Tikes has established a long-term partnership with various organizations including Home of the Innocents, Boys and Girls Haven, Centro Latino, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent DePaul Society as well Beecher’s Terrace and Park Hill housing community and others depending on need.Facebook
