Group FAQ’s

How much time is this going to take?

Group gatherings are usually 1.5 or two hours long chosen by the group. Approximately of 20-30 minutes of community time, 60-75 minutes of study and time for prayer at the end.

How often does a group meet?

Groups meet either weekly or bi-weekly during our three terms: Spring, Summer, Fall. We believe meeting consistently is important for health growth. Along with that quarterly we encourage our groups to engage in our Love the ‘Ville service initiatives. Groups occasionally take breaks or meet less frequently during the summer or near Christmas time.

Where do groups meet?

Groups meet in homes, coffee shops, parks, online and many other places around the city. Reach out to a specific group for more details.

What do groups study?

Groups have options for what to pick based on the group makeup. Northeast provides curriculum to help everyone understand the Love the ‘Ville lifestyle and give tools to help anyone follow Jesus in the home, workplace, city and church. Northeast also provides many other curriculum options to group leaders and helps them to choose those that will be helpful to their group.

Will there be homework?

Each group is different and if you are concerned about homework please reach out to the leader. Most groups do not have homework, although there may be times when a small amount of work may be a part of what you are doing. Here at Northeast, we encourage everyone to have a playbook that they design based on what God is teaching them. Sometimes these studies will encourage you to add and update your playbook based on what God has been teaching you.

Is there childcare available?

Many of our groups do provide childcare, because we believe it is best when the family gets to experience group together. Make sure and check with the group leader and let them know you are looking for a group with childcare when you request to join the group.

Will I have to pray out loud?

You are always allowed to move at your own pace. If you feel you want to voice a prayer request or pray that will be received well by the group.

How much do I need to know about the Bible?

Groups are about learning together not debating the Bible or being tested on it. We just ask that you come with an openness to learn with others, to hear from God and do something about what He teaches you.

How many people will be in the group?

Our target group size is 12-14 adults, with some groups also having children. Some groups are large, some groups are smaller. We encourage intergenerational groups, where people of all ages and life stages share life together. This creates an environment where everyone can learn from others life experiences and benefit from their perspectives.

If the group is not a good fit, can I leave without people being mad at me?

Of course, the most important thing is to find a group of people you can build community with. Most people find that their group becomes an extended family to them, and they look forward to sharing life with one another. If you decide to try another group reach out to the Spiritual Formation Team and we will help.
