Every person is made in the Image of God. Every image bearer has dignity, worth, and capacity.
Being made in the image of God means you have inherent worth. It also means you have inherent capacity- abilities, ideas, assets, and solutions.
In all of our Outreach efforts, we seek to define others by this identity of “image bearer”. If we define others by their deficiencies or treat them as passive recipients of someone else’s help, it rejects their dignity as image bearers.
“Dignity ” means we involve everyone as participants, as equals. If we change our paradigm for understanding poverty from a resources framework to a relational framework, then we will focus on the practice of reconciliation rather than the distribution of resources.
