In John 5, we read about a man who had been lying by the pool of Bethesda for thirty-eight years. That’s a long time to live with brokenness. Over the years, his hope likely faded. He had probably tried and failed so many times that disappointment became familiar, and complacency settled in. He wasn’t just physically stuck—he was spiritually and emotionally stuck too.

But then Jesus showed up.

This story reminds us of three powerful truths:

1. Jesus shows up in broken places. The pool was filled with broken, sick, and desperate people, yet Jesus walked right into that space. He doesn’t avoid our mess; He meets us there.

2. Jesus helps hopeless people. The man had no one to help him, and he had given up on himself. But Jesus sees the hopeless and offers real hope.

3. Jesus solves sad circumstances. What years of striving couldn’t fix, Jesus restored in a single moment. He doesn’t just treat symptoms—He brings complete healing and new life.

In times of crisis, people don’t ultimately need a preacher, a friend, or even family. They need a Savior. And that’s exactly who Jesus is. He steps into our brokenness, brings hope to the hopeless, and transforms our most desperate situations.
